Engineers at Particular
At Particular, we do things a little differently. While we hire exceptionally talented software engineers, we believe the role of an engineer goes beyond just writing code. Some of the activities may sound familiar, like surfacing stakeholders, gathering requirements, designing and architecting solutions, conducting risk and trade-off analyses, managing processes, and serving customers. But it doesn't stop there. Our engineers are involved in all aspects of the company, whether it's contributing to hiring decisions, organizing events, doing software development, or improving internal processes.
For instance, the text you’re reading now was written by a group of engineers who volunteered to work on a hiring task force. Along with other responsibilities like reviewing resumes and conducting interviews, we will also continue to look at ways to continuously improve our hiring process. This may involve updating documentation, tweaking processes, or even writing blog posts to share what we've learned.
At the same time, other engineers are preparing for conferences we sponsor, where some of us will be speaking, some will be staffing the booth, and some will be supporting remotely from home base. Another cross-functional task force, comprised of engineers, salespeople, and operations staff, is working on financial forecasting, while yet another task force is busy planning our company conference.
This kind of cross-functional collaboration is typical at Particular. It’s a safe way to step outside our comfort zones, allows us to collaborate with those skilled in other disciplines and grow together by providing peer-to-peer feedback. Oh, but don't worry; there are still plenty of opportunities to get our coding itch scratched. You might enhance platform capabilities across various components, prepare for the next .NET SDK release, or automate internal processes to make our work easier. Some days, you’ll write code samples or proof of concepts for customers, while other times, you’ll deep-dive into a platform component issue or speak directly to the customer while providing customer support, training, or architecture guidance.
In short, being an engineer at Particular isn’t just about code. It’s about committing to our mission, values, and people. Together, we build a work culture that supports growth and collaboration. This approach ensures that the company, our colleagues, and each of us thrive. It’s important to note that this may not be the right fit for everyone. However, if it sounds like a good fit for you, we’d love to hear from you and see how you might thrive at Particular.
